Caraway

Caraway is a good remedy for colds and congestion, it contains mild antihistamines, antimicrobial compounds that help to relax the muscles. Caraway seeds are also used in a number of medicinal preparations for treating disorders such as rheumatism, eye infections and toothaches. Caraway seed oil is used in treating fungus infections and is often used in combination with peppermint oil to relieve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and indigestion.

Yarrow

This herb plant was first used by ancient Greeks over 3,000 years ago for treating external wounds on the skin. The flowers and leaves of yarrow were eaten and also made into a tea-like drink. The fresh leaves were used to stop bleeding wounds, treat gastrointestinal problems, fight fevers, lessen menstrual bleeding and better circulation. The fresh leaves were also chewed on to relieve tooth aches. Scientists have credited yarrow for its benefits relating to almost every organ in the body.

Aniseed

Throughout history, people have used aniseed to treat a variety of ailments. The greenish seeds of the Pimpinella anisum were a highly-prized commodity in ancient Greece and Rome, and the seeds were so valuable in the East that they were often used to pay taxes. Aniseed is an excellent source of minerals like iron, magnesium, calcium, manganese zinc, potassium and copper, and the herb can improve digestion, alleviate cramps and reduce nausea.

Fennel

Rich in phytoestrogens, Fennel is often used for colic, cramps, wind, irritable bowel, heartburn, respiratory congestion, coughs and has also been indicated for high blood pressure. It is commonly used for cancer patients after radiation and chemotherapy treatments to help rebuild the digestive system. Fennel relaxes the smooth muscle lining the digestive tract (making it an antispasmodic).

Birch Leaves

Birch is a natural pain reliever containing salicylate, the compound found in aspirin. Salicylate deters the body’s production of certain prostaglandins that are linked to inflammation, pain, and fever among other things. Birch has a cleansing diuretic action that eliminates toxins and excess water, and has traditionally been used to treat skin disorders such as eczema. Traditional healers have long considered the leaves of the white and silver birch effective for skin rashes and hair loss.

Goldenrod

Goldenrod is noted for the ability to heal respiratory tract conditions; amazing for ‘upper’ infectious conditions and for the coughs & colds of lower tract conditions. It is also an amazing healer for skin or epithelial issues: bites, stings, cuts and other skin conditions, as well as internally for inflammatory conditions of the digestive tract (e.g. ulcers, colitis, diverticulitis). Goldenrod is renowned for healing urinary tract conditions. It facilitates detoxification throughout the urinary tract.

Rosemary

Rosemary leaves contain certain phyto-chemical (plant derived) compounds that are known to have disease preventing and health promoting properties. The herb parts, especially flower tops contain phenolic anti-oxidant rosmarinic acid as well as numerous health benefiting volatile essential oils such as cineol, camphene, borneol, bornyl acetate, a-pinene, etc. These compounds are known to have rubefacient (counterirritant), anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-fungal and anti-septic properties.

Peppermint

Mint composes numerous plant derived chemical compounds that are known to have been anti-oxidant, disease-preventing and health promoting properties. The herb contains many essential oils like menthol, menthone, menthol acetate.  Peppermint is also rich in many antioxidant vitamins, including vitamin A, beta carotene, vitamin-C and vitamin E. The leaves of mint contain many important B-complex vitamins like folates, riboflavin and pyridoxine (vitamin B6).

Marshmallow Root

Marshmallow is most commonly used to ease sore throats and dry coughs. The Marshmallow plant, especially the leaves and roots, contains polysaccharides that have antitussive, mucilaginous, and antibacterial properties. More recently, marshmallow has been used to treat certain digestive disorders, including heartburn, indigestion, ulcerative colitis and stomach ulcers. There is tentative evidence that marshmallow may also help with respiratory disorders such as asthma.
